Portuguese Academy of Neuroarchitecture

The Portuguese Academy of Neuroarchitecture is a pioneering institution that unites the fields of architecture and cognitive sciences, with the aim of exploring how built environments influence human behavior, emotions, and well-being.

Based on scientific research and innovation, the Academy promotes dialogue between professionals and researchers, encouraging the creation of spaces that meet people's physical, psychological, social, and emotional needs.

Its main focus is to disseminate knowledge that combines cognitive and human sciences with design, architecture, and urban planning, gaining a deeper understanding of how the built environment affects people's health and behavior. Through this knowledge, design strategies are developed that promote a better quality of life.

Over the past two decades, neuroscience has advanced significantly, especially in how we understand the relationship between humans and inhabited spaces. Buildings, neighborhoods, and cities directly influence our mental, physical, and social health. This impact, once perceived intuitively, is now the subject of in-depth study across various scientific disciplines.

The use of advanced technologies, such as biosensors, has revolutionized this field. Tools like EEG, fMRI, eye tracking, face readers, GSR, infrared thermography, and movement and respiration sensors allow us to objectively and quantitatively measure the impact of environments on users' emotions, health, and behavior.

Collaboration between scientists and professionals in design, architecture, and urban planning is opening a new frontier of knowledge, redefining the role of designers in creating environments that contribute to human well-being. With this evolution, architecture plays a fundamental role in developing spaces that improve quality of life.

Our mission is to innovate and transform

We bring the concept of Neuroarchitecture to education, healthcare, politics, tourism, and housing.

We consider Neuroarchitecture a public health issue and will do everything we can to ensure it is recognized as such.

We promote well-being and productivity by transforming as many spaces as possible* to holistically improve people's lives.

*Public and private spaces (neighborhoods, schools, prisons, hospitals, businesses, homes).

Innovation for excellence

Credibility

Ensure that all initiatives are based on scientific evidence.

Inclusion

Create spaces that are accessible and welcoming for everyone.

Wellness

Focus on solutions that improve people's quality of life, individually and collectively.
